In the US, schools often set their tuition rates on the basis of student loan availability limits. With lower limits in Canada, VFS does not need to set our tuition rates as high. Can US students get financial aid or scholarships at VFS? +
VFS students have a longstanding and proven track record with US-based student loans organization Sallie Mae, allowing you the opportunity to receive financial aid to cover your tuition at VFS and living expenses in Vancouver for the year that you are here. You will graduate from VFS with considerably less debt compared to other well-known US schools.
What if I don't have any artistic experience or portfolio? +
The best way to know if you are ready to train at VFS is to connect with us! Our faculty and Admissions team will be happy to take you through a complimentary portfolio review to give you a better sense of if you meet the prerequisites to apply to VFS.
How does the Canadian healthcare system work for US students? +
US students are eligible to apply for the BC Medical Services Plan (MSP) three months after arriving in British Columbia. The cost is CAD $75 per month. During the initial three-month waiting period, students should have private health coverage. A common option is Guard.me insurance, which costs approximately $2 per day.
Can my spouse/family accompany me to Canada while I study? +
Yes, spouses can apply for open work permits allowing them to work anywhere in Canada while you study. This makes VFS an attractive option for students with families looking to experience Canadian life.
